Finocket speaks Tally too. Every Tally term maps to a Finocket equivalent — usually familiar (Day Book, Outstanding, Cost Centre), sometimes renamed for clarity (Voucher → Entry, Party → Client). This cheat sheet shows all of them.
Tally → Finocket
Letters are not bare keys here. Hold Option on a Mac, or Alt and Shift on Windows and Linux — plain Alt with a letter is how browsers open their own menus, and a bare letter used to fire while you were simply reading a report. Both spellings are printed below.
Any record — payment, expense, invoice, visit.
A party's outstanding balance. Finocket uses Client for receivables.
Customer or vendor. Finocket has only Clients for now.

Bring your Tally data across
You can move your ledgers, parties, stock items and opening balances into Finocket in one go. Open Move over from Tally, choose the day your Finocket books start, and pick your export file.
Getting the file out of Tally Prime:
- Go to Gateway of Tally.
- Choose Export, then Masters.
- Pick All Masters and the XML format, then export.
You read everything before anything is written. Finocket shows you what your file holds — how many groups, ledgers, parties and stock items are in it, and how many of them are coming across — next to every opening balance and the trial-balance totals. Nothing reaches your books until you press Import.
Choose what comes across
Everything starts ticked. Untick any ledger, party or stock item you would rather leave behind, search a long list by name, or switch off a whole kind in one go. Your choices are saved as you make them, so you can close the page and come back — even on another device — to the same review.
If what you leave out means the opening balances no longer add up, Finocket shows you the exact gap rather than quietly adjusting anything. You then choose: go back and tick something, or park the difference in Opening Balance Difference (ledger 1499) — the same account Tally puts it in. It stays visible on your Trial Balance until you clear it, so nothing is lost or hidden. If the gap came from the file itself rather than from your choices, we say so, because that one is better fixed in Tally.
Importing into books you already keep
You do not need an empty Finocket to do this. If your workspace already has entries, Finocket tells you how many and explains that setting a books-start date places the opening balances behind all of them — your existing entries are not touched. Agree, and the import goes ahead.
Your transactions: leave them, or bring them too
By default your vouchers stay in Tally. Finocket counts them and tells you how many it found and the dates they span, but it does not bring them across — your opening balances already carry them. That is the right choice if you are drawing a line today and starting fresh in Finocket. Keep Tally for the history, and export back to Tally whenever your accountant needs it.
If you would rather have the whole history in Finocket, switch Bring your transactions across too on. Finocket then creates an entry for every voucher in your file — sales, receipts, payments, contras, journals — with Tally’s own voucher type and number kept in the narration so you can always find the original.
One rule decides which ones come, and it is not a setting. An entry dated before the day your books start is already inside your opening balances. Bringing it across as well would count the same sale twice — against GST returns you have already filed — and nothing in your reports afterwards could tell you it had happened. So Finocket leaves those in Tally, says how many, and offers to start your books on the date of the oldest entry in your file instead. Do that and everything comes across, because then those balances really are the opening ones.
Anything that still cannot come is listed by name with the amount it carried: a voucher cancelled or marked optional in Tally, one whose debits and credits do not match, and one that uses a ledger you unticked. If the import is interrupted you can pick it up again without anything being posted twice.
Your file is read on your own device and never uploaded. If you change your mind, an import can be undone — anything you have used since is kept, and we tell you exactly what and why. You can also import a second time later for anything you left behind; balances are added to what is there, never replaced.
Turn on Tally mode
Open the tour and pick the Tally branch on step 1. This sets your terminology preference to "accountant" — throughout the app, labels flip to Tally-familiar terms (Party instead of Client, Voucher instead of Entry). You can toggle it any time from Settings → Account & Privacy, under Accounting terminology.
Try with sample data
