Share a file straight into Finocket

Tap Share in WhatsApp, Files or your gallery, pick Finocket, and a statement, bill or export lands in your imports inbox without opening the app and hunting for an upload screen.

You do not have to open Finocket to bring a file in. Wherever the file already is - a bank statement in WhatsApp, a bill in Gmail, an export sitting in Files, a photo in your gallery - tap Share, pick Finocket, and it lands in your imports inbox ready to be read.

What can I share?

The same kinds Finocket already reads when you upload them: PDFs, photos (JPEG, PNG, WebP), CSV and Excel spreadsheets, XML, and zip files such as a Tally or Odoo export. Anything else is refused by name rather than silently ignored, so you always know which file did not come across and why.

You can share several files at once. Each one becomes its own import, so you can approve the bank statement today and leave the two photos until tomorrow.

How do I set it up on my phone?

Android

  1. Install Finocket - either from Google Play, or from Chrome with Install app (see Install Finocket as a real app).
  2. Open it once and sign in. Sharing files into a workspace needs you signed in.
  3. From then on, Finocket appears in the Android share sheet whenever you share a file it can read.

iPhone and iPad

Sharing straight into Finocket is not available on iOS yet. For now, open Finocket and add the file from Imports - the result is identical once the file is in.

What happens after I share?

  1. Finocket opens on a short screen listing what you shared. Tap Add to imports.
  2. The file is sent straight to your workspace. A large file resumes rather than restarting if your connection drops mid-way.
  3. It appears in Imports as a received job. Finocket works out what kind of file it is and what is inside it, and nothing is written to your books until you approve it.

Does the file leave my device?

Yes - and this is the difference between sharing a file and the on-device import flow. A shared file is stored in your workspace in Mumbai so Finocket can read it on the server, and the original is kept for 90 days after the import is reconciled, then deleted. You can delete the original earlier from the import itself at any time. See Import your data for how each source is handled.

Why did my share not arrive?

  • "The file did not come across." Finocket was not ready to receive on this device - usually the very first time, before the app has finished installing itself. Open Finocket once, then share again.
  • "That share is no longer here." The file was already brought in, or it sat unopened for more than an hour. Share it again.
  • "Finocket cannot read that file." The file is not one of the kinds listed above. If it is a format you need, tell us - the list grows.
  • A file you have shared before. Finocket recognises a file it has already taken in and points you at the existing import instead of creating a second one.

Do I need to be signed in?

Yes. A shared file goes into a specific workspace, so Finocket has to know whose books it belongs to. If you are signed out, sign in and share again - nothing is stored in the meantime.

Frequently asked questions

Can I share a bank statement straight from WhatsApp into Finocket?

Yes, on Android. Tap Share on the PDF, pick Finocket, and it lands in your imports inbox as a received job. Finocket then works out what the file is; nothing is written to your books until you approve it.

Does sharing work on an iPhone?

Not yet. Sharing into Finocket from the iOS share sheet needs an app extension that has not shipped. On an iPhone, open Finocket and add the file from Imports instead - the result is the same once the file is in.

What happens if I share the same file twice?

Finocket recognises a file it has already taken in and points you at the existing import rather than creating a second one, so a statement you forwarded twice does not become two jobs.

Where does a shared file go, and for how long is it kept?

It is stored in your workspace in Mumbai so Finocket can read it on the server, and the original is deleted 90 days after the import is reconciled. You can delete the original earlier from the import itself.
