Finocket ships one set of books and a lot of switches. Which switches you want depends less on how big you are than on what you actually sell — a chemist and a consultant can bill the same amount in a month and need almost nothing in common.
Start from the document, not the module list
The fastest way to set yourself up correctly is to open Settings › Invoice › Templates and pick the format your trade uses. That single choice does more than change how the bill looks: it decides which columns exist on a line, how tax is shown, and what the document is called.
It also offers to create the fields that format expects. A jeweller gets purity and HUID; a chemist gets batch and expiry; a works contractor gets the measurement fields an RA bill is built from. You are not typing those in later.
Then turn on only what you run
Modules are individually switchable under Settings › Modules. The ones that matter most by trade:
- A shop or counter — Retail till & shops. Adds the register, split tender, and the Z-report that reconciles your drawer at close.
- You hold stock — Inventory & stock. Batches and expiry live here too, so a pharmacy wants this before it wants anything else.
- Goods move between people — Sales & purchase orders, for RFQ → purchase order → goods receipt, and the three-way match that catches a short delivery before you pay for it.
- You send parcels — Couriers & parcels.
- You sell time — Projects and Time tracking. Leave inventory off; it will only ask you questions you have no answer to.
Two decisions that are expensive to change later
One company per legal entity, not per registration. If you are registered in three states under one PAN, that is one company with three registrations — not three companies. Splitting them now means your books never consolidate, and moving transactions afterwards is not something you want to attempt.
Opening balances before your first bill. Enter what you are owed and what you owe as at your start date first. Raising invoices and then trying to insert history behind them is the single most common reason a first month does not tie out.
If you are two trades at once
Most businesses are. A shop that also wholesales, a clinic that also consults. Turn on both sets of modules — nothing conflicts, and you can switch one off again later without losing what it recorded.
