Bring your books across from Tally (Prime, ERP 9)

Export a client's Tally masters and Day Book as XML, import them into that client's workspace, and check the result against the old books.

Most of the clients a CA firm keeps books for already run Tally. Finocket reads a Tally XML export of the masters and the Day Book, so a client's books can be brought across without retyping them. Do one client workspace at a time.

Export from Tally

  1. Gateway of Tally → Display More Reports → List of Accounts → Export → XML (Data Interchange) → All Masters
  2. For transactions: Gateway of Tally → Display More Reports → Day Book → set the period from your cut-over → Export → XML
  3. Drop the masters file first, then the Day Book (or one file that carries both). Each is read on your device and never uploaded.

Bring it into Finocket

Open Settings → Import & migrate and choose the Tally card. The same five screens apply as for every source: pick, map, dry run, import and reconcile. The dry run shows a verdict for every record before anything is written, and the reconcile screen puts the old books' figures beside Finocket's. A line with no source figure is marked not checked, never passed.

What comes across today

Account groups, chart of accounts, opening balances, parties (customers and suppliers), items, party opening balances, invoices, bills, payments and journals. The mechanics, including undo and re-imports, are in Import your data.

What does not come across

  • Filed GST returns, IRNs and e-way bills, which belong to the portal that issued them
  • Bank-statement matches and reconciliations
  • Attached files and images
  • Voucher narration formatting and Tally's own print layouts
