Bring your jewellery books across from Busy or Marg

Export from Busy as Excel or from Marg as Tally-format XML, import, then set up rates and posting accounts for a jewellery shop.

Both are read through the spreadsheet import. Finocket brings across the books, not the jewellery-specific facts (purity, per-piece weight, HUID, metal balances): set those up after the import.

Busy

  1. Administration → Data Export Import → Export Data → Masters (Accounts, Items) → Excel
  2. Basic exports Excel by report only. Busy XML is not read yet.

Marg

  1. Reports → Management Report → Utilities → Data Import/Export → Tally/Busy Export writes ledgers, items and vouchers as two Tally-format XML files (Masters, then Daybook). Drop them on the same import screen.
  2. Without that export: Bridger → Export → Masters as CSV, then Reports → each report → Excel, and map the columns on the next screen.

What comes across, and what does not

Groups, accounts, opening balances, parties, items, and invoices, bills, payments and journals. Not copied: filed GST returns, IRNs and e-way bills; bank reconciliations; attached files. Busy's print formats and user rights, and Marg's scheme masters and rate lists, stay behind. Marg's Sales Voucher and party-ledger column layouts are not confirmed, so check the dry run before you import. See Import your data for the steps.

Bringing purity, metal and making charge with the items

Purity, metal, tag number, making charge and wastage are item fields that come with the jewellery setup, so approve that setup first. Then, in the spreadsheet import, choose Items and download the item sheet: it has one column for each item field in your workspace, and the same columns come back in on import. A source file that does not carry them is filled in on the sheet before you import it.

After the import

Enter today's rate under Jewellery → Rates, choose the posting accounts under Jewellery rates & settings, then follow your first jewellery invoice.
