How a working day runs, step by step.

A QSR counter at lunch

A cashier bills a takeaway order and settles it two ways. The order type is a bill field you add once.

  1. Add an Order type field for bills once, in field settings, with Dine-in, Takeaway and Delivery
  2. Ring up the dishes on the till
  3. Pick Takeaway in the bill details
  4. Split the payment: part UPI, part cash
  5. Print the receipt on the counter's printer

Closing the day

The outlet manager counts the drawer against the day's bills.

  1. Open the register in the morning with the float
  2. At close, count the cash in the drawer
  3. Enter any cash paid out and what it was for
  4. Read the over or short against the expected cash
  5. Print the Z-report, with takings by cash, UPI, card, voucher and points

Monthly GST

Your CA works from the same bills the till printed. Finocket prepares the figures; you file.

  1. Invite your CA with the read-only Accountant role
  2. The CA reads the month's sales and the GSTR-3B summary on GST returns
  3. Download the GSTR-1 files as CSV to prepare the portal upload
  4. Import the GSTR-2B JSON and match it to your purchase bills
  5. File the returns on the GST portal yourself

A second outlet

A café opens a second branch with its own counter and staff.

  1. Add the outlet as a new shop
  2. Add a till counter for it
  3. Give the manager the Store manager preset and the cashier the Cashier preset, posted to that shop
  4. Bill from the new counter; each bill carries its shop and counter
  5. Read today's takings shop by shop on Dashboards

Buying for the kitchen

Morning purchases are recorded against the supplier and received into the kitchen's stock.

  1. Enter the supplier's bill for vegetables and dairy, item by item
  2. Pick the kitchen as the godown it is received into
  3. Mark whether its input tax is claimable, as your CA advises
  4. Leave it unpaid; it waits under Outstanding, in Payables
  5. Mark it paid when you settle with the supplier

Points for regular guests

Regulars earn points on their bills and spend them at the till. Points go to a named guest, never to a walk-in.

  1. Set the earn rate, minimum spend and expiry under Loyalty
  2. Add tiers by yearly spend, and a double-points week as a campaign
  3. Pick the guest at the till; the points go on when the bill is saved
  4. The till shows the guest's balance
  5. Take points as part of the bill with Split

Selling a gift voucher

A guest buys a gift voucher for a friend. The money is recorded as received in advance, not as a sale, until the voucher is spent on a bill.

  1. Open Vouchers and choose Sell a voucher
  2. Enter the value, how the buyer paid and, if you want, an expiry
  3. Hand over the code the screen shows
  4. Take the code at the till as the voucher part of a bill
  5. The till shows what is left on the voucher

A catering order

An office books lunch for an event. The advance is recorded against the invoice once the order is confirmed.

  1. Add the enquiry as a deal on the pipeline
  2. Raise an estimate from the deal with the menu and the head count
  3. Convert the estimate into an invoice with one click when the order is confirmed
  4. Record the advance as a part payment on the invoice
  5. Mark the deal Won; the balance waits under Outstanding

Costing a dish from its recipe

The owner sees what a plate costs before setting its menu price. Selling a dish does not yet take its ingredients out of stock.

  1. Switch on Manufacturing in module settings
  2. Add each ingredient as an item; its cost comes from your last purchase bill
  3. Make a bill of materials for the dish: what goes into one plate
  4. Read the plate cost rolled up from the ingredient costs
  5. Set the dish's menu price on its item with that cost in view

Billing when the internet drops

Built so entries made while the connection is down are held and sent when it returns. This has not been tested offline on a restaurant till yet, so settlement, numbering and the day close while offline are not promised here.
