Set up a manufacturing workspace on Finocket

Bring in raw materials, finished products and opening stock, add your suppliers and job-work vendors, then build your first bill of materials and record a production run - in under 30 minutes.

Business owner

A factory or workshop’s books start the same place any other business’s do - items, opening stock, suppliers - with one difference: some of what you make is itself the recipe for something else. This playbook gets your raw materials, finished products and suppliers into Finocket first, so your first bill of materials and production run have real numbers to work from.

  1. Bring in what you already track

If your raw-material and finished-goods stock already lives in Tally or BUSY, start an import under Settings → Import & migrate - items, opening stock and your suppliers come across in one pass. Nothing on a spreadsheet? A blank item template is faster to fill in by hand than to type row by row on screen.
  2. Set up raw materials and finished products as items

Each raw material and each finished product needs its own item - a bill of materials can only name items that already exist. Turn on stock tracking for anything a production run should move; an item without it is simply ignored by a run later.
  3. Count today's stock, raw material and finished goods alike

Enter opening quantities for every item - what is on the shelf as raw material, and what finished stock you are already carrying as made goods. A production run only consumes and produces correctly once the starting numbers are real.
  4. Add your suppliers - including anyone you send work out to

Raw-material suppliers and any job-work vendors you hand material to for outside processing (plating, machining, finishing) both go under Suppliers, with the usual payable terms. Finocket does not yet have a dedicated job-work tracking screen for general manufacturing the way the jewellery vertical does for a karigar - see the note below for how to track it today.
  5. Turn on Manufacturing and build your first bill of materials

If Manufacturing is not already in your menu, switch it on under Settings → Modules & features (Inventory should already be on). On the Manufacturing screen, create a BoM for one finished product: pick the product, set how many units one run yields, and add each raw-material component with its quantity. The full walkthrough - including optional work centers, routing and work orders - is at Manufacturing & bill of materials.
  6. Record your first production run

Pick the BoM, enter how many you made and the date, and save. Finocket consumes the components and adds the finished goods at their rolled-up cost - both show in the item’s stock history, labelled Consumed and Manufactured.
