Challenges
The manual work this trade still runs on, what it costs, and what changes.
The guest register is a paper book
- How it is done today
- Guests sign a bound register; ID photocopies go in a file; Form C for foreign guests is typed into the FRRO portal later.
- Cost or risk
- A missed Form C deadline after a foreign guest's arrival or departure, and guest IDs kept in an open drawer.
- With Finocket
- Built, behind a switch that is off by default. A guest register with IDs in a private store and a Form C prefill and due tracker. Filing on the FRRO portal stays with you.
Room GST is worked out by hand
- How it is done today
- The front desk picks a GST rate per bill from memory or a chart on the wall.
- Cost or risk
- The wrong band on a stay whose value per night crosses the threshold, and input tax credit claimed where it is not allowed.
- With Finocket
- GST invoices and return preparation work today with the rate your CA sets. Built, behind a switch that is off by default. Per-night lines banded by value per unit per day, which need a CA sign-off before use.
OTA bookings are typed twice
- How it is done today
- Bookings from MakeMyTrip, Booking.com or Airbnb are written in the register, then entered in Tally at month end.
- Cost or risk
- OTA commission, TDS under section 194-O and GST TCS are not checked against what was paid.
- With Finocket
- Bank statement import and reconciliation work today. Built, behind a switch that is off by default. OTA settlement reconciliation; there is no channel manager sync.
Room availability is a whiteboard
- How it is done today
- Bookings are marked on a board or a register page per date.
- Cost or risk
- Two guests promised the same room on a busy weekend.
- With Finocket
- Built, behind a switch that is off by default. Reservations with double booking refused by the database and a room board.
PG rent is collected in cash and tracked in a notebook
- How it is done today
- The owner or warden notes who paid and when, and deposits from memory.
- Cost or risk
- Missed months, disputes over deposits when a resident vacates.
- With Finocket
- Recurring monthly invoices per resident, deposits recorded, and reminders on your own WhatsApp number. Beds and residents are built, behind a switch that is off by default.
Advances are not adjusted at checkout
- How it is done today
- An advance is noted on the booking slip and remembered, or not, when the bill is made.
- Cost or risk
- Guests pay twice or leave with money owed.
- With Finocket
- Advances and deposits recorded against the guest and applied on the invoice.
Extras are written on slips
- How it is done today
- Laundry, minibar and room-service slips are collected at the desk.
- Cost or risk
- Charges lost at checkout.
- With Finocket
- Today each extra can be a line on the stay invoice. Built, behind a switch that is off by default. A running folio for the stay.
The owner sees money only at month end
- How it is done today
- Cash book, UPI app and bank are checked separately.
- Cost or risk
- No daily view of what was billed and what was received.
- With Finocket
- Reports on billing, receivables and bank balances, from the same books.
