Challenges

The manual work this trade still runs on, what it costs, and what changes.

  1. Nobody knows the true cost per metre or per saree

    How it is done today
Yarn rate, weaving cost and the process house's charge are added up on a calculator or an Excel sheet once a season.
    Cost or risk
Qualities are priced on last year's yarn rate, and margin on a design is only known after the season ends.
    With Finocket
A bill of materials per stage (yarn to grey to finished) with production runs. Each bill is costed from its components' standard costs; there is no automatic cost roll-up across stages.
  2. Yarn is bought in kg and cloth is sold in metres

    How it is done today
A paper conversion sheet or a munim's memory turns kg into metres for every lot.
    Cost or risk
Conversion mistakes show up as stock that never matches and as under-billing.
    With Finocket
Items default to metres on running length, with a second unit and conversion factor on the item.
  3. Lot, shade and roll details live in a register, not on the bill

    How it is done today
The lot and shade are written in a challan book and copied by hand onto the invoice.
    Cost or risk
A wrong shade or roll number on a bill turns into a return or a disputed payment from the trader.
    With Finocket
Lot no., shade, roll or taka no. and pieces are fields on every bill line. They are typed, not linked across challan and run.
  4. Process-house bills are booked late and TDS is missed

    How it is done today
Dyeing and printing bills pile up in a file and are entered at month end, often without TDS.
    Cost or risk
TDS not deducted under section 194C (new Act s.393(1) 6(i)) means interest, a disallowed expense and a notice.
    With Finocket
Book the job-work bill as an expense with the challan number, process, metres and shrinkage, and TDS applied.
  5. Traders over their credit limit keep getting fabric

    How it is done today
The owner remembers who is slow to pay, or the accountant calls after the goods have gone.
    Cost or risk
Outstanding piles up with traders in other states, and recovery through agents takes months.
    With Finocket
An advisory credit-limit warning appears when an invoice takes a trader past their limit.
  6. Dispatch details are scattered across the transporter's slip and the e-way bill portal

    How it is done today
The e-way bill number and vehicle number are written on the invoice copy by hand after the truck leaves.
    Cost or risk
A mismatch between the bill and the e-way bill is a penalty risk at a check-post.
    With Finocket
E-way bill no., vehicle no. and transporter are fields on the invoice and print in the dispatch block.
  7. The agent on each sale is not recorded

    How it is done today
Which dalal brought which order is kept in a diary, and commission is worked out at Diwali.
    Cost or risk
Commission disputes, and TDS under section 194H (new Act s.393(1) 1(ii)) that nobody tracked.
    With Finocket
The agent or broker and grey challan number are recorded on each invoice. Commission is not calculated yet.
  8. Looms and dyeing machines are booked on a whiteboard

    How it is done today
The supervisor plans the week on a board and finds the clash when two orders need the same jet.
    Cost or risk
Delivery dates slip and orders are promised that the floor cannot run.
    With Finocket
Work orders move through routing steps, and the capacity view shows load against each work centre.
