Challenges

The manual work this trade still runs on, what it costs, and what changes.

  1. Pickers walk the aisles looking for stock

    How it is done today
Stock location lives in a senior picker's head or a chalk mark on the rack.
    Cost or risk
Slow picks, wrong items sent, and work stops when that person is on leave.
    With Finocket
Rack and bin addressing, with pick lists sorted by bin and a reason code for each short pick.
  2. Inward stock sits on the dock without a location

    How it is done today
The truck is unloaded and put wherever there is space; the register is updated later.
    Cost or risk
Received goods cannot be found, and stock is counted as missing when it is in the wrong aisle.
    With Finocket
Each received line is put away to a suggested bin, and the GRN is matched to the PO and the supplier bill.
  3. Transfers between godowns are on paper slips

    How it is done today
A handwritten slip goes with the truck and is entered at both ends when someone finds time.
    Cost or risk
Stock is double-counted or lost in between, and inter-state transfers miss the tax invoice.
    With Finocket
A posted transfer keeps stock in transit until received, and a transfer to another state is flagged as a taxable supply.
  4. Trucks leave with a Part-A-only e-way bill

    How it is done today
The e-way bill is typed again on the portal from the invoice, and Part-B is filled at the last minute.
    Cost or risk
Detention and a penalty at a check-post if the vehicle details are missing or wrong.
    With Finocket
E-way bill JSON for an invoice or delivery challan with Part-B checked before download; e-way bill no. and vehicle recorded on the invoice.
  5. Consignment details are on the transporter's copy only

    How it is done today
LR number, packages and weight are on a carbon copy that the accountant asks for later.
    Cost or risk
Freight disputes and shortage claims with no record on the bill.
    With Finocket
LR or GR number and date, packages, actual and charged weight and freight terms are fields on the invoice. There is no LR document yet.
  6. Storage bills are made in Excel

    How it is done today
Pallets and days are counted from the register and a bill is typed each month.
    Cost or risk
Missed days and wrong rates go unbilled.
    With Finocket
A storage bill states the billing period and, per line, the storage basis and days stored. Pallets and days are not metered.
  7. Freight paid on inward goods never reaches item cost

    How it is done today
Freight is booked as a general expense.
    Cost or risk
Selling prices are set on a cost that leaves out freight and handling.
    With Finocket
Landed cost spreads inward freight and handling onto the items received.
  8. Diesel, toll and driver advances are loose receipts

    How it is done today
Receipts are collected in an envelope per vehicle and totalled at month end.
    Cost or risk
Nobody knows what a vehicle costs to run, and advances go unsettled.
    With Finocket
Fleet expenses are tagged to a vehicle number, trip LR reference and odometer reading. There is no trip P&L yet.
