Live bank feeds — what is and isn't live
The bank-feed interface and an encrypted credential vault for an Account Aggregator / bank-feed vendor are built; no vendor is wired in yet, so automatic bank-line fetch is not live. A fetched line reconciles exactly like a CSV line. Here's where that stands and what to do meanwhile.
Finocket already reconciles your bank statements — you import a CSV (auto-detected for 11 Indian bank formats) and match each line to a recorded payment or expense. Pulling those lines automatically, without a file, needs a licensed bank-feed or Account Aggregator (AA) vendor in the middle.
What is live today
The plumbing for a live feed is built and secure — but no bank-feed vendor is wired in yet, so nothing fetches on its own. Concretely:
- Built: the bank-feed interface (verify credentials, list linked accounts, fetch a date-windowed page of transactions) and an encrypted credential vault (AES-256-GCM) to hold a vendor account's secrets safely.
- Not live: automatic fetch of bank lines. No provider is available to select yet, so the connect form on Banking → Bank feeds shows the honest “no bank feed connected” state. It switches on only once a vendor is chosen and its credentials are connected.
Why a fetched line reconciles exactly like a CSV line
A feed does not get a second, parallel reconcile engine. The vendor adapter normalizes every fetched transaction into the same line shape the CSV parser already produces — a signed amount (money in positive, money out negative), an ISO date and a narration — and lands it as a statement stamped feed:<provider>. Downstream, the matcher cannot tell a fed line from an imported one, so everything you already trust about reconciliation holds unchanged.
Why a vendor is required
Banks do not expose transaction data to businesses directly — an automated feed flows through an RBI-licensed Account Aggregator or a bank-feed aggregator. Choosing one is a commercial decision (coverage, pricing, consent flow), so Finocket ships the vendor-neutral interface and vault now and lets you connect the vendor you pick, without a product update.
What you can do in the meantime
- Download your statement from your bank as CSV and import it on Banking → Reconcile — HDFC, ICICI, SBI, Axis, Kotak, PNB, BoB, IDFC FIRST, Yes, IndusInd and Canara formats are auto-detected.
- Set up bank rules so recurring lines categorise themselves as you reconcile.
Claims discipline: the bank-feed interface and the credential vault are built; no bank-feed / Account Aggregator vendor is connected yet, so Finocket does not auto-fetch bank lines today. CSV import does the same job manually. We will say so plainly until a vendor is live.
Frequently asked questions
Can Finocket auto-fetch my bank transactions?
Not yet. The bank-feed interface and a secure credential vault are built, but no Account Aggregator / bank-feed vendor is connected, so automatic fetch is not live. You import a statement CSV in the meantime — it does the same job manually.
Will a live feed reconcile differently from a CSV import?
No. A vendor adapter normalizes every fetched transaction into the exact same line shape the CSV parser produces — signed amount (money in positive, money out negative), ISO date, narration — so the matcher can't tell a fed line from an imported one. Everything you already trust about reconciliation holds unchanged.
Are my bank-feed credentials safe if I connect them?
Yes. Credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they ever reach the database, are bound to your company so a copied row can't be decrypted elsewhere, are never shown again after saving, and only the company owner can manage them.
What can I do until live feeds are ready?
Download your statement as CSV and import it on Banking → Reconcile — HDFC, ICICI, SBI, Axis, Kotak, PNB, BoB, IDFC FIRST, Yes, IndusInd and Canara formats are auto-detected — and set up bank rules so recurring lines categorise themselves.
