Underneath every invoice, payment and expense, Finocket keeps a real set of double-entry books: a chart of accounts, a ledger per account, and manual journal vouchers for anything the day-to-day screens can't express. This guide is that layer — where your accountant works.
Open Chart of accountsEvery group and account, with balancesThe chart of accounts
Accounts shows your whole chart as a collapsible tree: every group with its debit and credit totals, every account with its closing balance. Tap an account to open its ledger.
- Add your own accounts and sub-groups. Codes are suggested for you, and the built-in accounts are protected so the structure your reports depend on can't be pulled apart.
- Search by account name or code to jump straight to a ledger.
- Every Trial Balance, Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet line drills into these same ledgers — the report and the ledger can never disagree, because they are the same rows.

An account's ledger
Books → Ledger is one account's full story for the period: opening balance, every posting with a running balance, closing balance.
- Each row names where the posting came from — Invoice, Payment, Expense, Journal, or the opening balance — with its invoice or voucher number alongside.
- Tap an invoice, payment or expense row to open that document. Tap a journal row and the voucher opens in a sheet, narration and all, without leaving the ledger.
- Balances read the accountant's way: ₹ figures suffixed Dr or Cr against the account's normal side, not a bare plus or minus.
- The CSV export gives you exactly what you are looking at — same period, same rows, opening and closing included.
- Arrive without an account, or with a code that no longer exists, and you get a picker rather than an error.

Journal vouchers
A journal voucher is a manual entry posted straight onto your books — debits on one side, credits on the other. Open Add → Journal.
- Pick the voucher type first. Journal for any adjustment, Payment for money out, Receipt for money in, Contra to move money between your own cash and bank, Debit note for a purchase return.
- Add your lines — two minimum — and set each to Dr or Cr.
- Watch the footer. It keeps a running Debit total, Credit total and Difference, and Save only enables on Balanced. An unbalanced voucher cannot be posted at all.
Problems are listed all at once above the footer rather than one per attempt, so you fix the whole entry in one pass. Missing an account? Type a new name in the picker and create it inline — Finocket files it under the right group and tells you which one.
A line on Sundry Debtors or Sundry Creditors offers an optional client link, so the entry also shows up against that party. Splitting a line across cost centres needs the Cost centres module on plus write access to it; without both, the split control simply isn't offered.
What this screen will not do
- It will not post an unbalanced voucher. Not with a warning, not with a suspense account — Save stays disabled until debits equal credits.
- It will not let a view-only teammate save. They can fill the form; the server refuses the write.
- It will not delete a built-in account that your reports are built on.
- It does not reverse a posted voucher for you. Post an equal and opposite entry, so both sides stay on the record — that is what an audit trail is for.
