Bring your own AI keys

Run Finocket's AI features on your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google account: personal key first, then company key, then Finocket's included AI.

Finocket's AI (the assistant chat, scan-to-add and voice dictation) works out of the box on Finocket's included AI. If you'd rather run it on your own provider account, paste a key under Settings → AI provider keys. Your key is used first, billed by your provider.

Which AI providers can I use?

Three: Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI and Google (Gemini). Get a key from the provider's console:

Anthropic: console.anthropic.com → API keys.
OpenAI: platform.openai.com → API keys.
Google: aistudio.google.com → API keys.

Paste the key into the matching provider card on Settings → AI provider keys, choose personal or company scope, and Save.

Which key does Finocket actually use?

Every AI call picks a key in a fixed order:

Your personal key: if you set one, it powers your own AI activity and overrides everything below, just for you.
The company key: a workspace-wide key the owner sets; it applies to everyone who hasn't set a personal key.
Finocket's included AI: the fallback when neither is set. You never need a key for AI to work.

Remove a key any time and calls fall back to the next one in the order.

Who can set which key?

Only the workspace owner can set or remove the company-wide key. Every user (owner, assistant or accountant) can manage their own personal key. If you're not the owner, the company option is hidden.

How are my keys kept safe?

Every key is encrypted per workspace (AES-256-GCM) before it is stored. The plaintext never lands in the database, and the encryption is bound to your workspace so a stored key can't be reused elsewhere. Because of that, a key is never shown again after saving; the screen only shows whether one is set. To change a key, paste a new one over it.

Who pays for the AI usage?

When AI runs on your key, your provider bills your account, not Finocket. Finocket still meters own-key usage separately so you can see it apart from included-AI usage: open Settings → Usage & activity for the monthly estimate by feature and by user. The figures are estimates from public list prices, not your provider's bill.

Does this work offline?

Do I need my own AI key to use Finocket's AI?

No. The assistant, scan-to-add and voice dictation all work on Finocket's included AI with no setup. A personal or company key is optional, for when you want usage billed to your own provider account or want to choose the provider.

Can I see the key I saved earlier?

No. Keys are encrypted before storage and never displayed again; the settings screen only shows that a key is set. Even a read of the settings page can't leak your key. To rotate, paste the new key; to stop, remove it.

My personal key and the company key are both set. Which wins?

Yours. A personal key always overrides the company key for your own activity. Teammates without a personal key keep using the company key, and anyone with neither uses Finocket's included AI.

Will my provider bill match Finocket's usage page?

Not exactly. Finocket estimates cost from tokens used and public list prices in US dollars, so it is indicative, not an invoice. Your provider's console is the source of truth for billing; use Finocket's page to see which features and users drive the usage.

Can my accountant set an AI key?

Yes, a personal one. Every member (owner, assistant, accountant) can set and remove their own personal key for their own activity. Only the owner can set the company-wide key that covers everyone else.

Notifications, and who gets them

The bell tells you what needs you, and now it reaches your team rather than only the owner. Turn categories off, set quiet hours in your own timezone. Security alerts always come through.

Closing your Finocket account

Close your account yourself from Settings → Account & privacy. Nothing is erased for 30 days, a grace window you can cancel in. Export your CSV first, because after that there is no copy to ask for.

Your recovery key

A recovery key is the second way into the encrypted copy of your books held on this device. Twenty-four characters, shown once, saved by you — because Finocket keeps no copy of your passcode and cannot let you back in without one.
