E-invoicing (IRN) and e-way bills
For GST-registered businesses under the e-invoice mandate: export the IRN payload JSON and UBL XML for IRP upload, and generate the e-way bill JSON for consignments of ₹50,000 and above.
If your turnover puts you under India's e-invoicing mandate, every B2B invoice needs an IRN (Invoice Reference Number) from the government's IRP portal — and goods consignments of ₹50,000 or more need an e-way bill. Finocket prepares both as portal-ready files from the invoice itself.
Is e-invoicing mandatory for me?
E-invoicing applies to GST-registered businesses whose aggregate turnover has crossed ₹5 crore in any financial year since 2017-18 (the threshold has been lowered in stages; verify the current notification). It covers B2B invoices, exports and credit/debit notes — not B2C. Below the threshold, you can ignore IRN entirely; your normal Tax Invoice from Finocket is fully valid.
Generate the IRN files from an invoice
- Open the invoice's detail page. For an India-region business with a GSTIN set, the e-invoicing card appears.
- Download the IRN payload JSON — the invoice in the exact schema the IRP (Invoice Registration Portal) accepts.
- Sign in to the IRP (or your GSP's tool) and upload the JSON manually. The portal validates it, registers the invoice and returns the IRN and signed QR code.
- Also available on the card: a UBL XML export of the invoice for systems that consume the international format.
This is a manual-upload flow: Finocket builds the compliant payload; the registration itself happens on the portal. Keep the IRN and QR the portal returns with your copy of the invoice.
Generate an e-way bill
For a goods consignment worth ₹50,000 or more, the invoice detail page offers the e-way bill JSON. Finocket prompts for the transport distance (the portal needs it for validity), then builds the JSON you upload on the e-way bill portal to generate the EWB number. Inter-state movement uses the ₹50,000 threshold nationally; several states set different intra-state limits — check your state's rule.
Access & control
Owners and assistants export the payloads; an invited accountant can view and download them read-only. The card appears only for India-region businesses with a GSTIN in the business profile — set yours under Profile → Business.

Frequently asked questions
Is the ₹5 crore e-invoice limit mandatory for me?
If your aggregate turnover crossed ₹5 crore in any FY since 2017-18, yes — your B2B invoices need IRNs. Under the threshold, no. The limit has been lowered repeatedly, so re-check the current notification each year or ask your CA.
How do I generate an IRN and the e-invoice QR code?
Download the IRN payload JSON from the invoice in Finocket, upload it on the IRP portal (or through your GSP), and the portal returns the IRN plus the signed QR code. The QR comes from the government's signature, not from the billing app.
What is the e-way bill limit state-wise?
₹50,000 per consignment for inter-state movement everywhere. For movement within a state, several states set their own limits (some higher for specified goods, some lower) — check your state's e-way bill notification before dispatching.
Does Finocket file the e-invoice for me automatically?
Not yet — it prepares the exact JSON the portal accepts, and you upload it. That keeps you in control of registration; direct GSP submission is on the roadmap.
